Project: Sales Benchmark Index
Client: Sales Benchmark Index

Background
SalesBenchmarkIndex.com is one of Vexcom's biggest and most complex projects to date. The site encompasses the most sought after features in modern web development. From the massive content archive database, updated by both administrators and users, to the large peering and social networking features to the complex sales metric benchmarking tool, this site has it all.
Challenge
SBI wanted a one stop site where sales executives and their sales staff could go for any need that may arise. The result is a site where members can get the most up to date sales knowledge and techniques from across the world. The content section of the site feeds from a huge archive database that allows users to pull information from white papers generated by SBI staff, as well as white papers from other sales content providers. The site also allows the member to upload their own solutions to problems, which are then added to the general knowledge base. Members also have the ability to get the most recent content through RSS feeds pulling specific content from dozens of sites.
Members also have the option of asking their peers for assistance with sales issues. With the advanced peering functionality, entire organizations can network together to share knowledge, ideas and solutions to problems. Between the community message boards and the internal private messaging system, the user has the ability to communicate with his or her peers and keep the level of privacy they desire. They also have the ability to add specific people as friends in a more social networking style. This way they can keep business and personal contacts separate if need be.
All of these features make for a great site but they are not the biggest attraction. That title goes to the enormous and complex benchmarking tool. It is an analytical tool for companies to benchmark their sales figures against peer groups and world class standards. It works by collecting large samplings of sales data and computes that data through robust mathematical equations to produce sales metrics. Those metrics are then used to compare sales efficiency and effectiveness against other companies on a metric by metric basis. Once the company has been benchmarked, its data is stored for use to benchmark against other companies and itself in the future. After the benchmarking is complete, the database exports the metrics to Excel, where the numbers are parsed and graphs for each metric are generated. Those graphs are then dropped into PowerPoint slides and a comprehensive report is produced for the user, with the help of the human brains at SBI.
SalesBenchmarkIndex.com is a great example of Vexcom's ability to understand a problem and help work with the client to devise a solution. The site encompasses a lot of our programmatic prowess with the high level database and analytic tools, peering and social networking functions, RSS feeds and calendaring, all the way down to the Web 2.0 graphics and design.
